Special Olympics Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Invitational Games Opening Ceremony

Since its establishment, Special Olympics Hong Kong (SOHK) has been serving persons with intellectual disability to realize their potentials and integrate into the community by providing training and competition opportunities. The Year 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of SOHK. To celebrate the milestone, the SOHK 40th Anniversary Invitational Games will be held from 24th to 29th November 2016.
The Games covers five sports, namely Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Bowling and Table Tennis. And over 470 athletes with intellectual disability including both local and overseas will participate in it. The Games not only serves as a great occasion to foster the bonding among SO East Asia regions, athletes could also experience the joy and friendship with each other as well as the care and support that the community delivers.
The Opening Ceremony was successfully held on 25 November, 2016 at the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong - Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village. Mrs. Carrie LAM CHENG Yuet-ngor, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration of HKSARG was the guest of honour to officiate at the ceremony. Other guests included representatives of Home Affairs Bureau, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, National Sports Association, sponsors and supporters. Dr. Evelyn Lam, CEO of Por Yen Charitable Foundation, was also the guest of honour of the event.
