Hong Kong International Student Innovative Invention Contest (2015-2016)

Founded in 1982, YCH Lim Por Yen Secondary School was the first secondary school organized by the Yan Chai Hospital Board. Now, the school offers 4 classes, from S.1 to S.5 each and 5 classes of S.6.


As a supportive response to the education reform, the school set up the Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) on 30th March 2007, to implement school-based management. The participatory framework involves outstanding leaders from business sector, Pro Vice Chancellor of a local university, a retired Superintendent, representatives of the school sponsoring body, teachers and parents. Based on the school motto of “Serving with benevolence”, the IMC are dedicated to the implementation of policies focusing on the manifestation of educational goals of moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic development.


The School Administrative Structure is headed by the Principal and 2 Vice-principals, assisted by various committees: School Advisory, Crisis Intervention, Academic, Panel Heads, Teachers’ Professional Development, Ceremony and Image, General Affairs, Human Resources and Finance, Information Technology, Websams, Teacher Appraisal, Student Development, Discipline, Counselling, Careers Counselling, Moral and Civic Education, Extra-curricular Activities, Social Services, Alumni Liaison and Parent-Teacher Association Liaison. The Principal, assisted by the Advisory Committee, sets the directions for the school development and coordinates the work of all the committees. The formulated proposals will be submitted to discussion in staff meetings before being finalized by the IMC. These approved plans are then implemented and evaluated at the end of the year.

On 28 November 2015, Yan Chai Hospital Lim Por Yen Secondary School held the Hong Kong International Student Innovative Invention Contest (2015-16) at the school hall, with Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, JP, the Under Secretary for Education as the Guest of Honour. 118 teams of local students took part, compared to 88 last year, reflecting enthusiastic support to the organizing body. In order to boost the creativity of local students as well as to keep in line with the international trends and development, 15 overseas teams from 4 countries or regions were invited to participate.
